Loch Fyne has a reputation for its oyster fishery, and as a consequence, the loch has given its name to the once locally owned Loch Fyne Oysters and to the associated Loch Fyne Restaurants. It’s such a shame because this restaurant could, and should, be so good! We guessed that the mains wouldn’t take long to arrive so decided against a second glass. But I couldn’t help wondering, based on the evening, whether they might have been happier in Henley, Oxford or even Wokingham. The rest of the fish in the dish was fine. The restaurant is set in a beautifully renovated building by the Kennet canal. As a seafood restaurant that is ridiculous. I ended up with salmon and my portion was generous but under seasoned and the garlic pesto sounded nice but was a bit slimey. But it occurred to me recently that, despite it having been here in Reading for as long as I can remember,… Yes, Reading is lacking a specialist fish restaurant worth going to. Depends on what you see as posh I’m not but I got served.
