The Ordnance Survey 6in map of 1878 shows the site as: "Morfa-Rhuddlan Site of Battle (between the Saxons and Welsh fought in 795)" at National Grid Reference SH 9830 7830. The Peniarth 20 version of Brut y Tywysogion states that Maredudd actually died ‘in the Battle of Rhuddlan’ (Jones, 3) and Humphrey Llwyd in his Cronica Walliae (1559) wrongly incorporates into it an entry for 797, where ‘Caradog king of Gwynedd is killed by the Saxons’ (Williams, 86).
